The Tūpuna Maunga Authority created 'Te Whānau Atea' (family recreation space) at the foot of Te Pane o Mataoho / Te Ara Pueru / Māngere Mountain is the most comprehensive collection of Māori recreational elements in Tāmaki Makaurau.

The area includes a stunning basketball court, the design - Mai te maunga ki te Moana - was designed by Amiria Puia-Taylor and Bobby MacDonald and brought to life by Parklife. 

The court contributes to the visual stories of mana whenua in the public realm and is fun and inviting, attracting players. The court is designed for competitive play, with high-performance basketball hoops that allow for genuinely authentic games and shooting practise.
