Project // Gribblehurst

Pre-makeover, the Gribblehurst Court was a bit grey and drab with cracked asphalt, a dilapidated basketball hoop and no line markings.

ParkLife were engaged by Auckland Council for a design and build project funded by the Albert-Eden Local Board.

Our team worked alongside the Council with direction and input from the Board to reconfigure the layout, patch up the asphalt, lay down an Acrylic Sports Surfacing System, install a new Basketball Tower and Courtside Seating.

This approach of refurbishing an existing asset is the most cost effective and environmental way to create great recreation facilities.

Quality courts increase participation opportunities particularly for players that don’t have the means to join a team. Players become connected to their local court and a strong player community develops.

Basketball is the fastest growing major team sport in the country and about to be the most popular school sport in the country. 3X3 Basketball will feature for the first time in 2020 at the Tokyo Olympics. This growth has meant that there is huge pressure on indoor facilities to accommodate the player numbers and why outdoor facilities are now a focus for Basketball Associations and Basketball New Zealand.
